What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)?

Manual Lymph Drainage is a highly specialized massage technique adapted to promote the flow of lymph around the body, its gentle and repetaive movements stimulate the lymphatic nodes and assist the movement of lymph through underlying tissues removing congestion and stagnated lymph from our system.

The Lymphatic System
The Lymphatic system is made up of a network of small vessels that transport lymph (a clear fluid that transports nutrients and waste) and lymph glands (nodes) that filter the lymph fluid. Other lymphatic tissues are tonsils, liver and spleen.

Main Functions
The lymphatic system has three main functions, to help us fight infection by identifying the body's enemies by filtering and destroying the invading micro-organisms and distributing nutrients throughout the body. The waste products are then expelled from the body via the urinary system.

What are the benefits of MLD?
MLD has a complete calming effect on the mental and physical body, helping to reduce pain and creating an overall relaxed feeling. Stimulation of the lymphatics will cleanse waste material, reduce any swelling and strengthen the immune system. MLD will also assist with weight loss and detoxing.
